The Digital Concierge

Digital technology will transform the hotel room of the future, according to industry experts. While guest room technology will continue to focus on fast, free Internet, device connectivity with hotel services and in-room TV entertainment content, guests may also see iPad-like devices in their rooms, allowing them to control their heating, cooling, in-room food menus or other concierge services. “In the past two years the increased use of tablets and smartphones, and the mobile applications they use, has been extraordinary. These devices will become ubiquitous for business travelers within the next two-three years and will result in customers who want to interact with us using them, ” said Kermit Littlefield, VP, guest technology, Marriott International.

Social Listening

The next time you spend that much needed weekend away at a resort, beach cottage or country inn, don't forget to document your experience with a written review on the hotel's website. Hotels are especially sensitive to user comments and they monitor comments regularly. In fact, the lodging industry is one of the most proactive sectors when it comes to investing in online marketing and social media programs. Since they consider online marketing as their best return on marketing investment, they pay particular interest to what their customers are saying about their experiences while staying at their lodging facilities. Thus, never underestimate the power of your personal feedback, especially with the growing influence of today's social media networks.
